Dr. Russell Bean

DVM

Dr. Bean is the owner of Branchville Animal Hospital and St. Clair Animal Care. He received both his doctorate and bachelors degrees from Auburn University. Before starting Branchville Animal Hospital in 2005, Dr. Bean practiced small animal medicine in a North Atlanta suburb. Dr. Bean and his wife, Karen, share their home with their two children, three cats, and two dogs. They also have chickens and keep bees on their farm. The whole family enjoys the outdoors in their spare time.

Dr. Paul Taylor

DVM

Dr. Taylor joined the team in April 2012. He is a Mississippi State graduate. Dr. Taylor enjoys small animal medicine but also has experience with large animals and exotics. He is an avid sports fan and outdoor enthusiast. He and his wife Christy have three daughters and a son. They share their home with five dogs and a flock of chickens.

Dr. Justin Padgett

DVM

Dr. Padgett joined the team in June 2016. He is an Auburn graduate and most recently practiced mixed animal medicine in the Dothan area. He is a Florida native with ties to the Birmingham area. He and his wife share their home with their three sons and one dog.

Dr. Joshua Smith

DVM

Dr. Joshua Smith joined the team in April 2020. A native of Ohio, Dr. Smith graduated from the University of Tennessee and has practiced at mixed animal hospitals in Florida and California. He and his wife, Karen, have a daughter named Meave, a dog named Riley and two rabbits: Percie and Pluto. When he's not at the clinic, Dr. Smith enjoys mountain biking and crossfit.

Dr. Emily Scott

DVM

Dr. Emily Scott joined the team in May 2020. She received her doctorate from Auburn University, but originally hails from Kentucky, completing her undergraduate work at Western Kentucky University. Dr. Scott was an active 4-H and FFA member growing up and also showed cattle as a kid. She is interested in both small and large animal medicine. Outside of work, Dr. Scott enjoys gardening and spending time with her dog, Emma.

Dr. Jose Hernandez

DVM

Dr. Jose Hernandez joined the Branchville team in July 2020. A native of Puerto Rico, he completed his doctorate at St. George’s University and his clinical year at Washington State University. Dr. Hernandez enjoys seeing exotic pets as well as dogs and cats. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, spending time on the lake, and just being outdoors.

Dr. Ian Johnson

DVM

Dr. Ian Johnson joined the team in May 2021. He obtained his DVM from Auburn University. Dr. Johnson and his wife (who is also a veterinarian) have 3 dogs and 1 cat. In his spare time, he enjoys board games, reading, sports, and spending time with friends and family. Dr. Johnson is originally from Odenville and received his Bachelor’s in animal science from Auburn University. Dr. Johnson enjoys small animal medicine, and his career passions are internal medicine and soft tissue surgery.

Dr. Mary Johnson

DVM

Dr. Mary Johnson joined the team in May 2021. She obtained her DVM from Auburn
University. Dr. Johnson and her husband (who is also a veterinarian) have 3 dogs and 1 cat. In her spare time, she enjoys riding horses, running, being outside, and spending time with family. Dr. Johnson is originally from Kentucky and received her Bachelor’s in biology from Asbury University. Her career passions are equine medicine and small animal soft tissue surgery, but she enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine!
